Alice in Wonderland play

Pendleton County High School Drama is presenting one public performance of their traveling interactive children’s production of Alice in Wonderland on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at 7:00 in the Pendleton County High School Cafeteria. Ticket prices are $3.00 for anyone over 12 and anyone 12 and under are free although donations will be accepted. They will be speaking with students at each production on what is involved in creating a show from costumes, scenery, props, make-up, accents, and illustrating differences between a traveling show and a traditional stage production. The younger students will hear about turning a book into a stage production and how they are similar and different. IMPORTANT CHANGE to Solar Eclipse Announcement

In preparation for Monday’s eclipse staff at the schools were reviewing the safety labels on the glasses purchased.  It was determined that while all glasses had the necessary labels, it was found that some had not been purchased from vendors that were listed on the NASA approved list.  After discussions with district and school administration, it was determined that we were not comfortable in being able to ensure the safety and well-being of all students throughout the day, particularly the afternoon dismissal and transportation time home.

Therefore school will be canceled for Monday August 21, 2017.  This day will be added to the end of the year as a make-up day.  I apologize for the late notice but the safety of our students is of the utmost importance.

R. Anthony Strong, Ed.D

Superintendent

Important Information--Solar Eclipse eclipse

On August 21, 2017 we will experience a total solar eclipse, an event that hasn’t occurred over the U.S. mainland since 1979.  A total solar eclipse, which is when the moon completely covers the sun, will occur across 14 states in the continental U.S. along a 70-mile-wide swath of the country.  While Pendleton County is not located in this area, we will still be able to view the partial solar eclipse.

This event will be an extraordinary educational opportunity for our students.  Some of our schools will have special events and activities related to the eclipse, and more information will be sent home from the respective schools.

While this event is extremely exciting for our students, we must also acknowledge the importance of proper eye safety.  The eclipse must be viewed only through proper eclipse glasses.  All schools will provide students with proper viewing glasses that have been approved.

Please click "Read More" below for more important details.

Seniors Walk the Walk!

The Class of 2015 have been excellent role models for the younger students of the school district.  To put more emphasis on that statement,  the Class of 2015 --in cap and gown-- walked the halls of Southern Elementary, Northern Elementary, and Sharp Middle School on Monday, June 1.  The "Senior Walk" not only shared with the younger students the importance of getting College and Career Ready, but allowed the grads to share their success and gave their former teachers a proud moment of accomplishment.  This was the first year for the Senior Walk but hopefully an annual tradition has been started  at PHS.  Congratulations Class of 2015!

School Will Be Closed on Monday, April 2

The Pendleton County School District, in collaboration with the Pendleton County Education Association and the Pendleton County Board of Education, has decided to close schools on Monday, April 2, 2018.  Our response comes after yesterday’s press conference with the Kentucky Education Association request for statewide rally for public education and school funding. This will allow not just public school employees, but also the public and their families travel to Frankfort to advocate for Funding for Public Education.

Although, closing school is the last thing anyone wants to do, one of the reasons for this decision to close school is because educators feel one of their main responsibilities is to advocate for the children of the Commonwealth.  We have attempted every other means of communication, action, and advocacy.  The budget proposed by our Governor results in a 1.9 million dollar loss to our school district.  We need to make sure the Legislature internalizes the importance of putting our kids and families first, as well as those across the Commonwealth.  We encourage all of our families and community to travel with us in solidarity.  We must educate our lawmakers on the need to find new streams of revenue to fully fund our vital Public Services, including Public Education.

PCHS Students Selected for Governor’s Scholars Program

PCHS students Seth Longworth, Madison Sydnor, Holley Hart, Rebecca Ammerman, and Andrew Hicks received notice of their acceptance into the Governor’s Scholars Program in late April.

GSP not only serves as an incredible experience for Kentucky students, but also aids them in paying for higher education. The program was originally established to encourage students to stay in Kentucky for college by providing them with the opportunity for significant scholarships. Though the requirements vary by institution, most universities will award Governor’s Scholars with the cost of tuition.

Each of PCHS’s scholars will stay at one of three campuses: Morehead State University, Murray State University, and Northern Kentucky University. The students will be notified of their campus assignment in late May. They will then spend five weeks interacting with the “best and brightest” students from all around the Commonwealth.

Congratulations to all of these students!

Rotary Sponsoring “Linda’s Legacy” for PHS Juniors and Seniors

Linda’s Legacy” was started by the Falmouth Rotary Club in the fall of 2015 to leave a lasting tribute to Linda Thornton. Linda Sue Morris Thornton passed away on June 30, 2015 at River Valley Nursing Home. Linda was a retired educator, realtor and Falmouth Rotarian.  Linda was a strong advocate for education, and even though retired, she spent much of her time volunteering with the schools and other educational programs. She worked tirelessly to assist those who wanted to go to college and she pursued ways to make that dream a reality.

“Linda’s Legacy” is a Rotary scholarship which is awarded every year to current Juniors and Seniors at Pendleton County High School. Currently, PHS has dual credit college classes offered by Gateway Community College and Northern Kentucky University. This scholarship allows for students to apply for financial assistance to take these college classes offered at PHS.

The Falmouth Rotary is happy to announce the first winners of the scholarship. Avery Booth and Cheyenne Meadows are the first recipients of this scholarship.

On Feb. 18, members of the Falmouth Rotary gathered for a picture. All present knew that Linda would be very pleased with this tribute to our local PHS students in her honor.
