Fifth grade GATES students at Southern Elementary presented Native American global village displays to 4th and 5th grade students. Students were given the opportunity to tour the Global Village exhibits to learn interesting facts about the tribes represented. That afternoon GATES students also presented their displays and information to their parents.
The Native American cultural displays were created to enhance the students’ study of early Americans. Creating the exhibits served as a chance to showcase the culture and unique identity of the tribe that each student represented. Students researched housing, spiritual beliefs, clothing, arts, warfare, and tribal structure of 12 different Native American groups to prepare their exhibits. They worked in pairs to research and develop plans for their displays as well as create informational brochures.
