Dear Parent/Guardian,

 

Welcome to a new school year!  My name is Mrs. O’Hara and I will be working with your child in their advising class.  The advisor class goal is to provide supports for your child with some of the aspects of middle school.  Together, your child and I will work to answer questions they may have with classwork, homework, or just middle school in general.  This is the time we will complete STAR testing and progress monitoring, also.  Students will have the opportunity to continue working with Reading Plus.  This is a reading program that was implemented last year and the students work to increase their reading skills.  We may also work on Lexia and Moby Max.  Once accounts have been set up, your child may access these websites at home or the library.  Our advising class will have computer lab time 1-2 days per week to work on these programs. 

 

Another thing we will address in advising is staying current with class assignments and homework.  Students will receive supports in some of their large group classes, but staying attentive to task, trying their best, and completing any homework they may have is their responsibility.  Their agenda books will be a way for students to keep track of their homework and a way for you to see what they may need to work on as well.  I will be here to assist and support with questions they may have once they have tried to complete the assignment on their own.  Teaching responsibility for their work and actions is a major goal in my classes.
