Freshman GATES

Freshman GATES Students Host Learning Academy

Freshman GATES students at PCHS have worked with Mrs. Lustenberg on Thursdays throughout the year during their regularly scheduled Freshman Seminar class.  The last project of year for these students was a service learning effort.  The students decided to work in pairs to create challenging lesson plans with learning targets that would be appropriate for 4th grade students and offer this learning experience to elementary students in the district.  The students who are identified in multiple subject areas worked with their strengths to create lessons like Musical Mash of Materials, Choreography of Stage Combat, Lego Robotics, Science Science Science, Create Your own Business, Dance Party, and more.  The group made arrangements for space at Falmouth School Center and presented the lessons to 4th graders at Southern Elementary.  The 4th grade students were able to select the sessions that they wanted to attend prior to the "Learning Academy" and so were able to pick the learning experience which was of most interest to them.  Student presentors gained a great deal from the experience of researching, organizing and implementing this academy.  The students would like to thank the 4th grade students for attending and the teachers for helping with supervision.  They would also like to thank Betty McKinney, Shirley Merrill, Martha Gosney, and Pam Harper for help during the presentation of the learning academy.

How Free Will You Be

By Holden Gray W

Freedom, it seems to me, is anything but free.

For rare, important things, a cost there must be.

Freedom is found in few places but belongs to every man.

Freedom is in the soul and fabric of this great land.

Free to think, free to do, free to gain and lose.

Free to speak, free to own, for freedom we do choose.

It’s in our Constitution but handed down from God.

Guaranteed to every man, no matter how he’s flawed.

Freedom is American.  As American can be.

We sing it in those thoughtful words, “from sea to shining sea.”

Freedom must be protected and for it, wars are fought.

Many lives have been given, for this freedom sought.

Free to vote, free to worship, to assemble and to pray.

But freedom must be protected,  for it’s challenged every day.

What will you give?  What will you do?  What price are you willing to pay?

This question comes to every man, if free he wants to stay.

Many have laid down there lives in the hopes to be free.

The question you must ask yourself, is how free will you be!

Voice of Freedom

By: Josh R, Elizabeth P, Autumn P, Katie B, & Kyle R

What’s it mean to be free,

Do you know what it’s like?

When we walk down the street

We grind to our own beat,

We dress how we like, do things our own way

Be who I wanna be, say what I wanna say

Verse 1:

But I wasn’t like this; we had to fight for what we have today

So why do you hate me, why can’t you do the same

Take a stand for your freedom, support democracy

I can believe in what I want and take a stand for my rights

We’ve lost many in this fight, but it’s worth the rights

What’s it mean to be free

Do you know what it’s like

When we walk down the street

We grind to our own beat,

We dress how we like, do things our own way

Be who I wanna be, say what I wanna say
