After graduating in three years from the University of Kentucky, I gained acceptance to the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry.  I am a first year dental student on track to graduate as a Doctor of Dental Medicine in May 2015.

The gifted program started to shape my life early in elementary school.  I started out in Northern Lights, which offered opportunities to learn after school.

As soon as I was old enough, I began attending Summer Enrichment.  Once in middle school, I continued my gifted education in GATES and gifted art.  In high school, I had the opportunity to take AP classes to further challenge myself.  The gifted program taught me endless lessons from creating a couch out of concrete to beginning with the end in mind.  It fueled my desire to learn and molded me into a well-rounded scholar.  Through the gifted program, I learned to be a leader.  I gained confidence and realized potential I never would have otherwise in an ordinary classroom.  The gifted program inspired me to always stand out among my peers.  This inspiration and confidence led me to achievements in all areas.  From All 10th Region Basketball Team, to Kentucky Governor's Scholar, to Student Council President and University of Kentucky Honors Student, I challenged myself to be the best and compete with the best.  The greatest part about these achievements is not the titles, but the people, experiences and lessons learned from each of them.  That is what the gifted program is all about.  Although we have been identified as "gifted,"  that word is so small compared to everything that's behind it.

I will never forget the teachers, experiences and inspiration the gifted program has blessed me with on my life's journey.  I will never be able to thank the leaders of the gifted program, Michelle Lustenberg and Pam Harper, enough.

As you read this, please keep my favorite quote in mind from the wonderful Dr. Seuss, "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go."  Never give up on learning and challenging yourself so that you too can go to whatever places your heart desires.
