Hello! My name is Nila Harris and welcome to my webpage. This page is designed to benefit the students that I teach, their parents, my co-workers and other teachers, AND to help ME keep up with the resources I find that could help others.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND: I became a National Board Certified Teacher with a Rank 1 degree in 2011. I have a Master's degree in Reading and Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (both from Northern Ky. University). I have been trained in Reading Recovery, Comprehensive Intervention Model of Reading and Orton-Gillingham.

EXPERIENCE: As a lifelong resident of Pendleton County and a graduate of Pendleton County High School, I am proud to work in a school system which places a high priority on academics. I began my teaching career at Southern Elementary and have been teaching the past 10 years at Northern. My experience consists of having taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades, Reading Recovery and Title 1 Reading.

FAMILY: My husband and I live in Butler with our son Robert, who attends Pendleton County High School. My daughter Devin and her husband Phillip are in their fourth year of seminary school in Georgetown.  My son Mark is in the Navy.  He, his wife Cierra AND MY BEAUTIFUL, PERFECT, AMAZINGLY INTELLIGENT GRANDDAUGHTER Remington live in Georgia.  I miss my older children terribly but am very proud of their accomplishments.

I will continue to update my webpage based on my students' needs.  Hope you find it useful!

Parents,

Our students have been working on the computer program Fast Forward (it is actually called MySciLearn on Northern's webpage on the bottom left of the page).  We try to have the students work AT LEAST 30 minutes a day, 3 times a week.  Any additional time your child spends on this program at home would definitely be beneficial!
