Dr. R. Anthony Strong, Ed.D
Dear Students, Parents, Staff, and Community Members:
Welcome to another great school year in Pendleton County Schools. We had an unusually long summer due to a nice winter last year. Let’s hope our winter this year is just as nice to us. I like being out in May just as much as the students and staff. We are ready to make 2016-17 the best school year yet for our students. Our teachers and staff are ready, the buildings are shining and the buses are cleaned, fueled and ready to roll.
During my remarks to staff on opening day, I asked staff to reflect on our accomplishments from last year. We are fortunate to live in a community where we have outstanding students, staff, and community support. There were many things that we discussed, but the one I was proudest of was our establishment of being a “Proficient District” based upon KDE accountability system. It just shows the dedication that we have to moving forward.
So with our success “How do we continue to move forward?” was the focus of my remarks this year. We do that by understanding and addressing the CHANGE we face in our day to day operation. We want that change to move us toward Excellence.
In order to accomplish Excellence, we have adopted a new Strategic Plan that focuses on Academic Performance, Financial Efficiencies, and Culture. In addition to our new plan, we have revised our Mission and Vison Statements to better represent what we are about and where we are going. All of this is being done in order strengthen the focus of our work in educating the children of Pendleton County Schools. I just completed my 15th year as an employee of the district. I am happy to be starting my 6th year as superintendent. Opening day for me this year was just as exciting as it was in 1990. We are starting this year with a fresh start and focus and I am confident that we will be working together as a team. Our new Vision Statement is “United in Pursuing Excellence!” I ask you just as I did staff to come on board with us in 2016-17 in Uniting for the students of Pendleton County Schools.
