Houchens Building

Houchens Building

The Houchens building was built in 1873.The building is the best example of the Italianate architecture to be found in Falmouth .In 1873 Orion lodge sold stock to add the third story. The Masons used it for lodge meetings. The leftover parts of the building were used for offices and shops. The building is 151 years old. It is located on 136 W Shelby.

The Mason’s family built and owned the Houchens Building. Then they sold it to Max Goldberg. He owned it for 75 years and it is currently owned by BMD (Best Moorhead Dean). They have owned it for approximately 10 years. It was originally a store in the downstairs area.

The second floor was an apartment area. The third floor was for the masonic building.  Over the years it has housed offices, military shop, and hosted meetings for Odd Fellows.
